Theater Paid Roles For Models and Actors

If you are an African-American actor and have been looking to play some lead roles in a known production, here’s your chance because the casting team of “Too Heavy for Your Pocket” is looking for a number of actors to portray some very important characters. About the show:

The story is situated around the time of civil rights in a rural Tennessee where two young couples make struggles to come in terms with sudden responsibilities, love and justice.  The husband Bowzie gets an opportunity to make his life and his family’s better when he is bestowed with a scholarship from the Fisk University. However his mind is made for bigger and better things as he gets knee deep as Freedom rider to fight for the rights and stand strong against racial discrimination. However in order to become a better citizen he had to sacrifice a little of his family life and with this he struggles. Alongside his friends and a loving family Bowzie discovers his role in life.

Schedule breakdown:

The auditions for the roles will be conducted in New York, NY on 3rd and 4th August. Only those with appointments will be entertained on the audition day.  The rehearsals will ensue from 10th January, 2017 and end on 4th February, 2017.

Contract and payment:

Actors and actresses will be hired on the contract of LORT Non-Rep and paid with a rate of $637 per week minimum–theatre pays above minimum though.

Casting for the roles of:

The play “Too Heavy for the Pocket” will be played out in New York City. The casting team requires bot male and female to portray several paid roles. Ages of the applicants must range between 20 to 24 years old. All the applicants must belong form an African-American ethnicity.

  1. Bowzie Brandon:
  • Gender: Male
  • Ethnicity: high yellow African American
  • Age: 21 to 25 years old
  • About the character: Brandon is a skinny fellow who takes entertaining others very seriously and often acts as a fool to get a good laugh out of others while in reality he is intellect with an sharpness and vulnerability. He gets stuck in deciding what should be his ultimate path, to live for his family or to fulfill the responsibility bestowed upon him as a citizen.
  1. Tony Carter:
  • Gender: Male
  • Ethnicity: African American
  • Age: 21 to 25 years old
  • About the character: Carter and Bowzie has been close friends since childhood, where Bowzie is an entertainer, Carter is the handyman who gets employed from week to week. The two are also different is physicality where one is smart yet scrawny, Carter is all muscles and height. Crater also possesses an incredible sense of humor. With a bad past, Carter is adamant on turning his life in the right direction.
  1. Evelyn Brandon:
  • Gender: Female
  • Ethnicity: African American
  • Age: 21 to 25 years old
  • About the character: Evelyn is Bowzie’s wife with an exceptional and timeless beauty. She is performer with a talent for singing. She is very social and prior to her marriage was very independent and thriving. She also possesses an incredible sense of humor yet a no-nonsense attitude. Evelyn occasionally acts stubborn though.
  1. Sally Carter:
  • Gender: Female
  • Ethnicity: African American
  • Age: 21 to 25 years old
  • About the character: Sally is Tony’s wife and is a beautician by profession. She is pregnant but her slight figure barely gives that impression. She is very smart, mature and has an inner strength about her. She is a mother figure who is usually the rational and diplomatic one in situations. While the others are loud and prominent in their own right yet when Sally speaks everyone listens.

How to apply:

Submission will be accepted only from American Equity Association members therefore they must apply directly without any other means of agents or otherwise. Last date to apply for these roles is 4th August 2016. Send the submissions with a picture and resume.
